Psalm To Christ

Trapped in the quicksand of self-sufficiency
Stuck in the mud of my own self-righteousness
A prison of my own making
Restrained by pride; I need to be rescued

You handed me freedom,
I returned to captivity by choice.
My piety chaining me in place,
Climbing a mountain I will never summit

Then I glimpse freedom,
I catch a small glimpse of You,
And I break free – surging forward

You welcome me with open arms
(for the hundredth time)
I dedicate my life to you
Help me to stay free as your bond slave

Do not let me give you second best;
Wilted roses as a love gift.

You deserve the best, all I have to give
Nothing hidden or held back in the mists
Lord, I give you my heart, I give you my soul
I live for you alone

Every breath I take, every moment we make
Lord, I live for you – and You alone.
